2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

Anyone in the market for a blazing fast (and expensive) roadster would no doubt be content with the new Mercedes SL63 AMG, which Benz claims rushes from 0-to-60 mph in a tad over four ticks. But AMG fanatics with deeper pockets may want to wait for the faster (and even more expensive) 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, set to debut at next month's 2012 New York International Auto Show. Mercedes claims the V-12-powered super Benz will blast to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
Another significant update is the 2013 SL65's new seven-speed automatic, which has two more cogs than the gearbox in the previous model. Drivers will have their choice of four transmission modes: Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S), Sport plus (S+), and Manual (M). With the boost in horsepower and a new transmission, there's a good chance the SL65 will get to 60 mph much quicker than the claimed time of 3.9 seconds, so long as the tires have enough grip. An AMG rear-axle locking differential comes standard to help transfer all that immense power to the tarmac.
Like the SL63, the SL65 will be limited to a 186 mph top speed. Standard brakes include 15.4-inch discs with six-piston calipers at the front and 14.2-inch discs with single-piston calipers out back. AMG's Carbon Ceramic Braking system is a wise update if you're planning to take your SL65 out for a track attack or two.
Visually, the SL65 AMG stands out from lesser SLs through a number of subtle exterior modifications. The front fascia gets a widened lower bumper with horizontally mounted LED daytime running lamps and an air gill at each side, while the front apron has a chrome finish. The side view includes V-12 and Biturbo badges and standard 19-inch rims; a set of AMG forged multi-spoke wheels with 20s in the rear and 19s up front is available as an option. Out back, a rear spoiler sits atop the trunk deck, while square-ish quad exhaust tips provide another subtle hint at the roadster's immense performance capabilities. Inside, the SL65 gets treated to diamond-patterned leather seats. Like the previous model, the 2013 SL65 AMG comes standard with a long list of niceties including a Magic Sky Control glass roof, an Airscarf neck-heating system, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and heated and ventilated seats.
Pricing hasn't been released for the SL65 as of yet, but expect a significant jump from the SL63 AMG. The outgoing SL65 stickered for $199,000, while the SL63 was pegged at an MSRP of $139,000 -- a difference of a C63 AMG sedan, give or take a few grand. Following its debut at the New York show, the SL65 should arrive in showrooms in November.

2013 Mercedes SL550

Generally speaking, I'm a pretty measured sort of guy. But when it comes to convertibles, I'm a bit of a lunatic. I've been known to motor with the top down in all conditions – including light rain and snow – much to the bewilderment of other drivers (and quite often the chagrin of my passengers). For the most part, it doesn't matter if I'm driving in a bare-bones roadster or a lux-lined GT. Thankfully for my hapless guests, however, advances in technology have done much to assuage discomfort in poor weather. These days, there are far fewer tradeoffs associated with top-down motoring: improved aerodynamics, wind blockers, enhanced ventilation, sun-reflecting leather and, of course, seat heating and cooling – all features that have done much to make me better company. What's more, modern underlying structures are stiffer and there's little in the way of the noise, vibration and harshness penalties that there used to be.
In terms of innovation, nobody has done more to advance the everyday livability of the convertible than Mercedes-Benz. They kept the faith back in the late 70s/early 80s when nearly everyone had gotten out of the convertible business. They brought back the folding hardtop.  They came up with the pop-up roll hoop to augment rollover safety. They created Airscarf. Aircap, too. Hell, with this 2013 SL550, they've even invented a new windshield wiper fluid delivery system to prevent errant spritzing when driving with the top down (more on that in a minute). Unbridled power and outrageous sound - that's what accompanies each exhaust system we store for you on our digital shelves. Manufactured from the premium materials using the latest technologies, they all are ready to complete the image of your vehicle and give you instant horsepower and torque gains. After an exhaust system is installed, your vehicle will roar like a line and run like a cheetah. Have doubts? 2013 Mercedes-Benz

How do you make a 4,300-pound roadster accelerate to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds? Easy, just fit it with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 that cranks out 621 horsepower and – wait for it – 738 pound-feet of torque. Sounds bonkers, right? Welcome to the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG.
We're all very familiar with the *63 AMG models, the majority of which are now fitted with a brand new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8, but for those who want the ultimate in high-performance machinery (at an extremely high-dollar price), the *65 AMG cars are simply out of this world. We first feasted our eyes on the new-for-2013 SL63 AMG at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, but the SL will now be taking the stage at next month's New York Auto Show to debut off its range-topping spec.

Mercedes News

Mercedes-Benz has a rich history of building powerful but smooth powertrains.  The German company’s in-house tuning outfit, AMG, has a rich history of building insane powertrains:  monstrous engines that produce both numbers and noises that rival 1960′s Detroit iron. In the 40 some years that the gearhead engineers have been working, muscle car Mercs have come and gone but today, the AMG philosophy remains the same.  Each model is truly unique and in order to fully experience what these vehicles can do, Mercedes-Benz has opened another round of their AMG Driving Academy.
The event got its original start in 2007 and has taken place each year since.  Traveling from race track to race track, the 2012 edition will take place at five facilities around the United States.  Starting on Apirl 12 at the Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Florida, the first five-day event will ensure that each AMG model on hand gets a proper testing.  Both owners and fans are invited to attend the instructional event and will be offered the opportunity to drive some truly amazing cars.  Professional drivers will guide attendees behind the wheel of such AMGs like the C63 Coupe, E63 Sedan, SL63, SLK55 and even the SLS.  Three levels of training will be available – Basic, Advanced and Pro – with the top tier costing $3,695.  But with that, drivers are given three days worth of intense training and the ability to experience fully what a 600 plus horsepower, naturally aspirated V8 can do the Mercedes rear wheels.
Luxurious, stylish, shiny, custom wheels are not simple accessories. As alchemists could transform one form of matter into another, so the proper rims can modify the vehicle's look. They are powerful enough to turn a daily driver into an opulent car, and to underline the inherent elegance of any luxury vehicle. We store the whole selection of custom wheels, delivered by the most prominent brands in the industry. Whether you want to boost the style of your vehicle or need a reliable setup for a harsh off-roading, we have the right wheels for you. Read over 2 wheels reviews with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, and find the rim that reflects your sense of style.

Mercedes Air Intake

2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG: First Drive. The insults are common and predictably gender-biased: the hairdresser's car, the chick car, etc. But the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK, especially the SLK 55 AMG, throws off those epithets with abandon, rising instead to deliver a combination of sport, speed, style, and comfort anyone could love--even macho, macho men.
How does it do it? With a familiar AMG recipe, adding more power, better handling, a dash of race-inspired design, and, of course, AMG exclusivity. Yet the SLK 55 remains the most "lifestyle" oriented vehicle in the range by AMG chief Ola Kallenius' own statement. How do these two personalities co-exist in one smallish roadster? Quite well, actually.
As we light off through downtown San Francisco toward our destination in Monterey, via fantastic winding roads that slice through verdant Redwood-lined vistas, it's immediately apparent that this AMG car is a bit different from the rest. Among the rest of the AMG range, even the CLS 63 AMG, there's a tendency for the softest "comfort" suspension setting to be a bit harsh for daily driving in cratered urban streets. Not so with the SLK 55.
There's still a sport-oriented firmness to the ride, but the dampers have been tuned to demand less from the driver and more from the car--a much better balance for top-down cruising. And that's how we set out despite the slightly damp November chill to the Bay Area air.
With the windows up and the climate control system set, the cabin is neither turbulent nor uncomfortably cold. A mesh divider between the seats helps to settle the wind. We cruise in comfort with the top down for over an hour, enjoying the sound of the 5.5-liter naturally-aspirated V-8 and its 415 horses reverberating from first the buildings, then later then trees, as we (rapidly) work our way to our destination.
Let the engine of your vehicle breathe freely with a quality Mercedes air intake system. To satisfy the requirement of the most discerning enthusiasts, we've carefully handpicked world-class air intake systems manufactured by the top names in the industry. Engineered to optimize the air path between the air filter and the engine, air intakes provide your vehicle with the maximum airflow and you with a noticeable increase in horsepower and torque. Read over 2 air intake systems reviews with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, and choose the system that is perfect for you.

A quick recap of what you'll be seeing: a recontoured convertible with an intense light signature up front, a finessed, stylized interior, a Magic Sky Control roof and a rear end that we still need a little more time to get used to. There's a 4.6-liter V8 with 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet under the hood, which is a hefty dose of power moving even less weight: the new car is 300 pounds lighter than its predecessor.
